Hammer Unions

Hammer Unions - Abdex Australia

Abdex provides a full range high pressure standard and sour gas hammer unions suitable for extreme conditions. We inspect each union to ensure long, reliable service.

Three lug nuts and self-locking ACME threads allow quick make-up and break-out. Color-coded for easy identification, our sour gas unions include unique markings for safety. They meet NACE MR-01-75 and API RP-14E standards.

Manufactured from high-quality ASTM/AISI steel, these unions are built to last. Abdex  provide a pressure-tight, positive seal in low-pressure services from 500 to 2,000 psi.

The male and female subs create a metal-to-metal seal. The range includes sizes from 1/2” to 12” with working pressures up to 20,000 psi. Our unions are fully interchangeable with most major hammer union brands.

FAQ

A 1502 Hammer Union is a high-pressure fitting widely used in the oil and gas industry for connecting temporary flow lines and equipment. It’s designed to handle extreme conditions like well testing, cementing, and hydraulic fracturing.

Key Points:

  • High Pressure: Rated up to 15,000 psi, ideal for demanding operations.
  • Tough and Reliable: Made from durable forged steel for long-lasting performance.
  • Quick Connections: Easy to assemble and disassemble using a sledgehammer.
  • Sealing: Ensures a tight, leak-proof connection with metal or elastomer seals.
  • Color-Coded: Typically painted (e.g., blue and red) to prevent mismatches.

These unions are built for safety and efficiency in high-pressure environments.

To ensure hammer unions are compatible:

  • Match Sizes and Pressure Ratings: Both halves must have the same size and pressure rating (e.g., 1502 for 15,000 psi).
  • Check Color Coding: Use the same color-coded parts to avoid mismatches.
  • Inspect Threads and Seals: Ensure threads and seals are clean, undamaged, and fit properly.
  • Use Same Manufacturer: Mixing brands may cause slight variations that lead to leaks or failures.

Proper checks help maintain safety and prevent equipment issues.

The API standard for hammer unions is API 6A, which governs wellhead and tree equipment.

Key Points:

  • Pressure Ratings: Designed for high-pressure applications, up to 15,000 psi.
  • Material Standards: Meets or exceeds NACE MR-01-75 (corrosion resistance) and API RP-14E (erosion control).
  • Testing Standards: Includes guidelines for pressure, temperature, and performance testing.

Compliance with these standards ensures hammer unions are safe, durable, and reliable in demanding environments.
