What is the kill line and choke line?
The kill line and choke line are high-pressure hoses used in oil and gas drilling operations as part of the blowout preventer (BOP) system. They play critical roles in well control:
• Kill Line: This is a high-pressure line used to pump heavy drilling fluids (kill mud) into the wellbore to counteract formation pressure and stop a kick or blowout. It allows operators to “kill” the well by increasing the hydrostatic pressure in the wellbore.
• Choke Line: This line routes fluids from the well to a choke manifold during well control procedures. By adjusting the choke valve, operators can regulate pressure and safely manage flow from the well during a kick.
